How Parent Absence Alerts Work
Marking a student absent or late automatically triggers a real notification to their guardians.
When a student is marked Absent or Late, SkoolHive automatically resolves their linked guardians and sends a notification - always logged in the school's Notification Log even when using the built-in mock delivery, so nothing silently disappears.
Delivery channels
SMS delivery uses a real provider (Twilio) once your school configures credentials; until then, a safe mock adapter logs exactly what would have been sent, so the whole notification flow is testable with zero live credentials. WhatsApp Business API delivery follows the same pattern and is not yet connected to a live sending account - the chatbot's WhatsApp escalation uses a simple click-to-chat link instead, which works today without any special setup.
Automatic absence detection
If your plan includes Auto Absence Alerts, a scheduled check runs after your configured cutoff time and marks any still-unmarked, enrolled student absent automatically, notifying their guardians the same way - so a student never goes unaccounted-for just because no teacher happened to mark them.
