Creating and Activating an Academic Year

Academic years move through Draft, Active, and Closed - and you can copy last year's classes and sections into the new one.

Go to School Setup → Academic Years → New Academic Year to create next year as a Draft while your current year is still active - this lets you prepare classes and sections ahead of time without disrupting the current year.

Copying structure forward

Use Copy Structure to copy classes, sections, subject links, and teacher assignments from your current year into the new draft year in one step, rather than recreating everything by hand. Anything that already exists in the target year is safely skipped, so it's safe to run more than once.

Activating a year

When you're ready, activate the draft year. This closes the previously active year (marking it CLOSED) and makes the new one current - every new attendance record, mark, and dashboard number from that point on applies to the new year.
